Sarah volunteers on our Board of Directors. This week we asked her about her experience as a board member for SVSS:
"Being a board member of Saanich Volunteer Services Society is a very rewarding experience. I have been on this board for over 4 years, and each year brings new achievements.
I am proud to be on the board of an organization that has amazing staff and volunteers who provide a number of services to clients in Saanich. We are a governance board, and consist of a group of people from various backgrounds who meet monthly with the Executive Director. As a board member, I have also attended the Volunteer Advisory Committee (VAC), which has been a great way to connect with the volunteers and gain more insight into the day-to-day operations.
When I attended my first VAC meeting, there was a cake on the table. Brenda, the Executive Director, had made me a cake to celebrate my birthday. It was a very nice surprise, and a very nice way to spend my first VAC meeting-eating cake!
This is one of many great memories I have of my time so far with SVSS. For someone who is interested in joining a board, I highly recommend it!"
